About This Crossback Dining Set


Dine in style outdoors with this timeless outdoor dining set. The solid shorea-wood table is nearly 5 feet long and features two options for seating. You can choose between four armchairs or two armchairs and one bench. The armchairs and the bench both have an appealing crisscross pattern on the backrest, plus armrests for added comfort.


The dining table gives you the option to easily add shade your outdoor setting by using the standard 1.5-inch-diameter umbrella hole. Durable shorea wood comes from the teak family, making it a discerning choice for outdoor furniture, as well as an attractive one. These items arrive ready to assemble, easily and quickly.

About Shorea Wood

Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. While related to Burma Teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries, making it considerably less expensive than teak. Because shorea contains an abundance of natural oils and is dense, heavy, and hard, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, wear, and marring.

We recommend using a 9-foot umbrella with a 45-lb. stand with this dining set. For windier environments, please use a heavier umbrella base for added stability.

Care

A light clear sealer is applied to the wood to help maintain the natural coloring and to provide some protection from the elements. We recommend reapplying the sealer once or twice a year, other wise the wood will weather to a silvery gray. Sealer can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Customer satisfaction is our number-one goal, so we were concerned and surprised to hear of some customers' disappointment with the construction, assembly, and overall quality of these pieces. We've taken these comments under serious consideration and have taken the proper measures to ensure that from now on, our customers will not only love the look, but the quality of this set as well.

One issue we've addressed is the packaging, to reduce the risk of items arriving to you with damage. Wood pieces are now wrapped so they will not rub against each other in the box and cause unnecessary wear. The table, bench, and chairs are double-boxed for extra protection during travel.

We have also seriously addressed the issue of problems with assembly. We have addressed assembly mistakes with the manufacturer, and our current inventory is free of these errors. A set you order today should be a snap to put together.

Some customers have expressed concern about cracks and splints developing in the wood. It is important for customers to note that because shorea wood is a natural material, variance in texture and color is unavoidable. We recommend maintaining your wood pieces with an oil product specifically designed for outdoor furniture. This will extend the life of your furniture and keep the wood from weathering as quickly. These wood maintenance products can be found at all major hardware stores.

We received the table and chairs yesterday. In theory, everything should be easy to assemble and sturdy. However, the instructions are not clear as to how the legs go on the table and some of the hardware was stuck together so I had to use a knife to pry apart washers and nuts. One of the chairs was missing dowel pieces that are crucial to assembly. That means a trip to the hardware store if I want to use the set for a family gathering today. Also, on the chairs some of the pre-drilled holes did not align well. It was a challenge to get screws into the holes. Fortunately, I was able to get the chairs together without additional drilling. Overall, I would say it is a good set for the money, but be prepared to do some work to get it assembled. I would recommend this set to a friend who is handy and is looking for a bargain.

      I was looking for a teak patio set for outdoor Sunday dinner dining on our deck. After I found out what teak sets were going for, I started looking for alternative woods and found this incredible deal. The wood is beautiful, the set up was fairly easy with just a few glitches that needed attention (a couple of the pre-drilled bolt holes needed a little more drilling, one of the table legs needed the connection bolt reset). Did I mind having to do a little extra work to get this set up? Heck no! I saved about $2,00.00 and ended up with a terrific outdoor dining set. Although the factory finish was fine, we also decided to give it a coat of teak oil before it gets its real summer workout. It takes the oil beautifully and looks even better. Don't we feel like smart shoppers? Why yes. Yes, we do!

      After we assembled the table it rained the next day and some of the finish came off as if it didn't have enough time to dry at the factory. After we sanded and restained it was fine.

      The set was easy to assemble and looks nice. Seems to be well constructed but only time will tell how well it holds up. I would recommend dressing the wood with oil or varnish etc. for longer life.
