About Shorea Wood and Linseed Oil
Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries. Because shorea is dense, heavy, and hard, and contains an abundance of natural oils, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, weather, and marring. Shorea (red lauan) wood will have variations is color - from a red to a yellow cast.
The Shorea wood for this item is treated with linseed oil. Linseed oil is not a varnish. The oil soaks into the pores of the wood leaving a shiny (not glossy) surface that shows off the grain of the wood. Linseed oil helps protects the wood from denting by compression and from accelerated deterioration.
After assembly simply wipe the bench with a damp cloth to remove any excess oil that may be remaining. Please note that it is recommended to let your bench sit outside for 2-3 days before sitting on it to let the stain air out and completely dry.

I was very suprised when the ottoman arrived. It was made of heavy, solid wood. The color (quality of the wood) is lovely and blends well with the natural environment outside. I am certainly not mechanically gifted, but I had it assembled in 15 minutes. I wasn't going to purchase the ottoman at first, but I already had the bench and side table. I was so pleased with those two pieces, I thought I would complete the ensemble with the addition of the ottoman. The only problem that I have is that it is not high enough, but that could be just a personal preference. A very good buy and a good decision to buy it.

Very comfortable. Shorea is nice hardwood compared to the chairs made of fir. Only drawback is the straight legs get wobbly after awhile. There should be a brace from the straight legs to the curved frame.
