In classic Adirondack style, our Richmond Deluxe Adirondack Chair offers the utmost in comfort and durability. It is crafted of durable red shorea (red lauan) a wood similar in strength, texture, and appearance to mahogany. The slightly coarser structure of shorea will age beautifully, imparting an element of rustic charm in any setting. Wide armrests, comfortable slats, and an ergonomic curved back promise relaxation - season after season. Add additional comfort to your Adirondack chair by adding our 19.5W x 17L inch cushion during check-out.

About Shorea Wood and Linseed Oil
Shorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Related to Burma teak, this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries. Because shorea is dense, heavy, and hard, and contains an abundance of natural oils, it is highly resistant to rot, bug infestation, weather, and marring. Shorea (red lauan) wood will have variations is color - from a red to a yellow cast.

The Shorea wood for this item is treated with linseed oil. Linseed oil is not a varnish. The oil soaks into the pores of the wood leaving a shiny (not glossy) surface that shows off the grain of the wood. Linseed oil helps protects the wood from denting by compression and from accelerated deterioration.

After assembly simply wipe the bench with a damp cloth to remove any excess oil that may be remaining. Please note that it is recommended to let your bench sit outside for 2-3 days before sitting on it to let the stain air out and completely dry.

Care

Each piece is ready to paint, oil, or leave natural. When left untreated it weathers to a soft gray. If treated, it should be treated with finish products meant for softer woods because Red Lauan is a dense wood. A yearly application is recommended, or as weather conditions dictate.

These chairs go together quickly and look great. They're very comfortable to sit in too. The parts to one chair fit perfectly; the other one took some coaxing, including re-drilling the guide holes for some screws. The wood is absolutely beautiful, but wood tone of chair pieces can be noticeably different. I think this won't be so obvious once they've weathered a bit. I'm using these on the front porch of my cabin, which is in a rental program when I'm not there. Will be interested to see how they hold up to rental abuse. These came together very well and I'm certain they're sturdy enough for home use.

As with many purchases, you get what you pay for. I chose this chair because it seemed attractive based on the Web picture, was made of wood, and most importantly didn't cost much. Assembly was pretty straightforward. Many reviewers complained that screw holes didn't line up and they needed to re-drill some of them, which was my case also. But again, that's expected for the price. Once assembled, I had to let it sit in the Sun for a couple of days for the factory applied oil finish to penetrate the wood. Until then, you can't sit in it without getting residue on your clothes. My only other issue is the wood is rough, it has a rough cedar texture. But it's tolerable. But overall it is very comfortable, sits well and looks good on my porch.

I would not have purchased this chair if I had known that this chair is made in China. When box arrived for Christmas on the outside it says Made in China. I was dissappointed that this was not disclosed in the ad for the chair.

These are very nice chairs. I ordered one to see if I liked it first. Once I received it I immediately ordered another. They look great in our backyard. I have had them for about one week and they have already started to fade, which is the look we wanted, but if you want them to stay their original color I would suggest sealing them right away. Overall, good chairs.

We bought two of these chairs last year and they sit in direct sun, southern, salt water exposure in the Seattle area. Aside from covering them in the winter/rainy months, and giving them a good soak of teak oil in the spring, they are the w/o any other maintenance and have weathered beyond expectation. Great Value. Buy these chairs over teak or cedar. Treat them as you would the more expensive wood(s) and save a load of money, AND they look great!
