Shorea Wood: An Eco-Friendly Choice

Wood Care Instructions
After assembly, furniture should be rinsed well with water to remove dust left over from manufacturing. This should be done before placing on concrete or tile to prevent staining. Since Shorea has such high oil content and is so dense, it weathers well outside without maintenance at all. Shorea will weather naturally to silver gray. While the weather process may change its color, the grain will still be smooth. You may treat each piece with Teak oil to prolong weathering.
A seasonal cleaning may be desired. This can be done easily with a mild solution of water, laundry detergent, and a little bleach. Just rinse the furniture and use a sponge or soft bristle brush to scrub the furniture with the solution. Lastly, rinse the furniture with more fresh water.
If the original warm brown color is preferred, Oxford Garden suggests any teak oil to be used seasonally to preserve the color. The application of oil is simply cosmetic. Test in an inconspicuous spot to approve the color before applying to the whole piece of furniture. Application of oil is at the customer's discretion and is not included in the warranty. If the original wood color is preferred after graying has begun, Oxford Garden recommends using a wood cleaner to restore the color. Follow up with a new application of teak oil.
Painting or using polyurethane is NOT recommended due to the high oil content of shorea wood. Because some surface roughness may develop early in the weathering process, a very light sanding may be desired to smooth out the roughness. Follow up with a dry rough cleaning sponge to remove any remaining sawdust.

We have a very small martini deck off of a bedroom and these chairs even reclining fit perfectly.

Nice product. I stained mine to match my existing wood patio furniture. I marked them as "difficult to assemble" to make a point. They're actually easy to assemble, but the instructions aren't clear. I ended up putting the chair bottom and back together backwards and after assembly, couldn't raise or lower the chair the entire way. Easy to figure out but would have been better if instructions were a bit clearer about part orientation.
Otherwise, be careful! These parts are held together with hammmer-in wood dowels, not screws. I don't know how you'd get it apart if you needed to back up and redo one step. I'm not sure the dowels are removeable once assembled. Once I noticed this, I made sure to double-check and dry-fit each step before inserting the dowels.
Everything worked out ok and they work well. Just be careful about assembly if you purchase these.
As far as the product itself goes, I like them. With the cushions they are reasonably comfortable (cushions -- not included but I bought the ones specifically made for these chairs -- are about 2-3 inches thick, but sufficient). The chair's style is nice and matched my existing eucalyptus patio furniture. The price is much higher than similar eucalyptus furniture I bought elsewhere online, but these were the only recliners I could find that closely resembled my existing furniture so price had to be a second priority. ;)
