Constructed of Jarrah wood, one of the hardest and most durable timbers commonly found in Western Australia, this conversation set makes a great addition to any outdoor seating area.
Naturally resistant to insects and decay, Jarrah is a remarkable hardwood ideally suited for outdoor furniture. The wood from Jarrah trees is fine-grained and ranges in color from a rich reddish brown to a soft salmon pink, adding warmth and a cozy feel to any outdoor seating area. If you leave your Jarrah conversation set outdoors without maintenance, you'll find that the exposed surface of the wood naturally weathers to a silver grey color. However, the original red color always remains in the body of the wood and can be restored with a special oil finish.
This conversation set includes six modular seat units with seat and back cushions, two sets of arms, a coffee table, and two end tables. About Jarrah wood
Jarrah is the common name for Eucalyptus Marginata, a relatively large tree which attains a height of up to 130 feet, with a straight trunk up to 50 feet or more and a diameter up to 6.5 feet. Commonly found in Western Australia, the color of Jarrah wood ranges from a rich reddish brown to a soft salmon pink. It turns a silver gray shade when seasoned by the weather and exposure to sunlight, but it occurs only at the surface. The rich original color is always there, just beneath the surface. The original reddish tone can be preserved by applying a special oil finish, which contains a light transparent pigment that screens UV light and enhances the tone and hue of Jarrah without hiding the grain.
Environment-friendly choice: Jarrah timber is a sustainable natural resource. The harvest is strictly controlled by the government of Western Australia. No logging occurs in old-growth forests.
Legendary durability: The Busselton Jetty is the ultimate testimonial to the strength and durability of Jarrah timber. Care and Maintenance
The amount of care required by your Jensen Jarrah furniture is directly related to the amount of exposure to the weather and the color you wish to maintain. Maintenance is as easy as you want it to be. To preserve the original "showroom" color it should be protected from the elements, especially strong sun light, heavy rain and snow. You can preserve and enhance the reddish color by any one or more of the following:
- Coating regularly with a timber treatment such as Jarrah Colorguard. It's easy to apply using a lint-free cloth, sponge, or even spray bottle.
- Storing your Jarrah furniture under a covered patio and re-coating annually. Recoating fully exposed furniture in average climates twice a year is sufficient. More frequent recoating may be needed in regions with high sunshine.
- Using a breathable protective cover, available at specialist stores. As wood is a natural product it should not be stored under plastic as this will inhibit the flow of air around the furniture and may cause mildew to form or distort the wood.
Of course, your Jarrah furniture will stand up to the elements quite well, even if totally neglected! All that will happen is that the original color will change to silver gray on the timber surface. You will see this begin to happen after three to four months in harsh conditions, if the timber is left untreated. If your furniture has become silver gray, it is possible to restore the original color by applying Jarrah Colorguard.
