I live in north central West Virginia, where we can get high straight-line winds any season of the year. After chasing down patio umbrellas that had blown out of their stands and down the street, I decided I wanted something that would help the umbrella stay put even in the strongest gales.
The Galtech umbrella stand really fits the bill. It has two screw locks, one near the bottom and one about 3/4 of the way up the neck, to hold your umbrella in place. And it does that VERY WELL.
Only caution would be--watch your shins. This is, as advertised, a HEAVY product so that it does what it is supposed to--keep your umbrella in place despite high winds. Be very careful deciding where you want it, because it can be heavy to move. Just turn it on its side and roll it--but again watch your shins!
One other observation--the ornate nature of the stand is really striking. I have seen other reviews about rust and the appearance degrading, but I have had no such issues. I have the antique bronze finish, and it is beautiful.

The base has a 24" diameter, and the rise in the center is about 1.5", quite unlike the photo, which seems to show a greater modulation in appearance. In actuality, this is an almost flat, enormously heavy, cast iron manhole cover, that somehow got to Kentucky from China. Alas, we have no iron in the USA. Tell you what though, this puppy will NEVER turn over, not in a gale. It took 3 people to move it at all. The package was dented and mashed, the interior styrofoam broken in many places, and the second, smaller pipe was completely flattened at the threaded end, making it an instant throw away item. Something this heavy has to be shipped in a crate, not in a flimsy box with strapping tape and a wing and a prayer. No, I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. The shipping was a problem, the lack of measurements on the description page was misleading, and the photo looks NOTHING like the actual item. Once it is in location, I guarantee you, it will never be moved by you or any act of nature, so pre-position well, if you order it. The umbrella was great, as always, and is my third w/ no complaints what-so-ever. I would not have ordered this particular base if I had seen it in person. I would have bought one locally. Shipping was timely, but again, the base box was destroyed because it was not designed to hole 80# of flat iron. I bet my FedEx person hates me.

Good product but the company did not drill a second hole in the post..you need two to steady the pole..so we drilled it ourselves and it works fine...too bad they don't finish the job!

Q1: We have a 13 ft umbrella on our deck and it does get windy. We need a very sturdy stand to hold the umbrella and keep it up when its windy. If this one does not work please recommend one that would.
A: If you are using this stand along with a patio table you should have enough support, if you are going to be using this stand for a free-standing umbrella it will not be heavy enough.
